Release 0.2

Introduction

First off, thank you to everyone that played V0.1 and provided feedback!

In this release our focus was on improving the difficulty progression throughout the game. We also added some features that were sorely needed, reworked/improved some of the assets and made more information available to the player in-game.

For a more detailed look at everything we added, please have a look below.

Patch Notes for version 0.2

  • We have reworked the algorithm that increases the difficulty. Now the number of elves, their health and their speed increase wave-on-wave and level-on-level. Every third wave is a special wave that increases one of these stats significantly for that wave and less significantly for all proceeding waves in the level.
  • With this change to the enemy difficulty, we have also adjusted the turret's stats and some of the module stats. We have also changed the cost of the different buildings and how much currency is dropped by the enemies each level.
  • We have redesigned all of the levels to be more compelling. Along with this, we have reworked how the enemies navigate the levels in the back end. This will allow us to more easily add new levels or update existing levels.
  • We have redesigned the turret building. We were not satisfied with the turret's design in V0.1 and it also did not match the modules.
  • We added the ability to sell the module buildings.
  • We added more information when the player clicks on a building. Now the player should more easily be able to see which buildings affect each other.
  • We have added a simple tutorial to the first level to guide the player.
  • We have added enemy hit feedback.
  • We have zoomed in the action a bit so that the player can see our awesome animations a bit better ;)
  • We have added a start portal and an end portal with a majestic portal opening animation. We have also added animations for the elves going in and out of these portals.
  • We have added an animation for the elf to walk upwards.
  • We have switched to using a blend tree for the elves' walking animations. This really decluttered the elves' animation controller.
  • We have added buttons to the level UI to allow the player to quickly restart the level and to return to the main menu.
  • We have removed the standard level music in favour of silence in between waves.
  • We have fixed the wave music not ending with the waves.
  • We added tooltips to the UI to give the player a better understanding of what the different purchasable items do.

What's next

With the core gameplay now in place, we will be focusing on polish for the next release. We want to rework the tiles to make our version of hell more unique. We want to add background sounds and effects to add to the game's ambience. We want to make UI improvements to give the player a better sense of reward and progression.
